Meet Rebecca

Integrative Contemporary Clinical Psychotherapist and Coach

Rebecca Champ is an Integrative Contemporary Clinical Psychotherapist and Coach, and the Executive Director of ADDapt Ability.

Her passion is to help individuals with ADHD discover how to design lives they love to live. Combining her training as a coach, counsellor and psychotherapist with her personal experience and understanding of ADHD, Rebecca has developed a process and programmes to connect with your core self, discover your natural talents, and build tools specifically designed to create the life you imagine.
Why is this important? As an adult with ADHD, Rebecca knows the power; amazing creativity and energy that comes with ADHD when you are interested and engaged in your work and your life.

Following her partner's diagnosis of inattentive ADHD in 2007, Rebecca trained as a professional Coach, and in 2009 launched ADDventure Within. She received her Diploma in Contemporary Psychotherapy in 2013, and completed her Masters research for her Advanced Diploma in Contemporary Psychotherapy in 2017.

Rebecca works as a mentor for students with disabilities for the DRC at the University of Cambridge, and has designed and presented training for mentors in Understanding and Working with ADHD for the University of Cambridge and the Disability Support Service at Kings College London. She has also facilitated the redesign of a group ADHD programme for the Sutton Adult ADHD/ASD Assessment Service at Southwest London and St. George's NHS Trust. Since 2014, Rebecca has been a member of the Advisory Board for the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN). Rebecca also provides courses and workshops for professionals working with ADHD.

In December 2010, Rebecca initiated the Adult ADHD Action Campaign for Cambridgeshire, highlighting the need for support and services for an existing community of adults with ADHD. This resulted in the establishment of a pathway within the NHS for adults with ADHD, and the official opening of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Adult ADHD Clinic in November 2013. She continues to support the clinic, and works to establish an appropriate support service for Adult ADHD to be implemented by relevant authorities in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area. She also facilitates the active Cambridge Adult ADHD Support Group.

Sessions with Rebecca are also accessible via Access to Work and Disabled Student Allowance (DSA).

Rebecca lives in Cambridge, UK with her husband and two giant Maine Coon cats, where she works with clients both in person and via Skype. She is an accredited member of the UKCP, a member of the Community of Contemporary Psychotherapists (CCP) and the BACP, and is bound by their Code of Ethics.

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is defined as a genetically inherited neurological condition present through childhood and into adulthood that is characterised by difficulties with distractibility, inattention, and varying levels of hyperactivity or restlessness which can interfere with everyday living. There are many myths about ADHD, and it is often portrayed as a negative, antisocial and debilitating medical condition.

Having ADHD herself, Rebecca believes this concept limits potential. When viewed as a neurological difference, there are many positives and benefits to ADHD that can provide distinct advantages with good management and self knowledge. The ingenuity, creativity, drive to be active, enthusiasm and intensity that comes with interest are valuable skills and traits that deserve development. Very often, it is environmental challenges and a lack of understanding of the needs of those with ADHD that makes every day life difficult.
